Dominion-NextEra merger draws supporters and critics at a packed SCC hearing

If your power comes from Dominion Energy, regulators heard from your neighbors Thursday. People nearly filled the State Corporation Commission's hearing room, with an overflow room open, to speak on NextEra Energy's proposed merger with Dominion. Anger over data centers and rising power bills met arguments that the deal would boost the economy, and WRIC says supporters and opponents spoke in roughly equal numbers.
Kindy Anderson, who opposes the deal, said, "I already can't afford to pay Dominion, literally." ChamberRVA's Brian Anderson argued Virginia needs "more scale, more capital." Earlier this week, the companies agreed to 101 of 117 proposed conditions from intervening parties.
